Some love stories begin with a first date. Ours began years before we ever realized it.

Five years ago, our paths crossed at Sierra Junction. Alex had been a longtime customer there for nearly 20 years, and Melissa had just started working there. At the time, we were simply two people whose lives happened to intersect in a familiar place.

Neither of us could have imagined that the person we were meeting would eventually become the person we would choose to spend forever with.

For the next several years, life took us on our own separate journeys. We crossed paths, got to know each other, and continued living the lives we were meant to live.

There was also a chapter of loss and healing along the way. Before our relationship began, Melissa experienced the heartbreaking loss of her previous boyfriend, Bryan Williams, who passed away after battling stage IV colon cancer. Bryan will always be an important part of Melissa’s story, and that loss was something that required time, healing, and strength.

Sometimes, life has a way of bringing people together only when the timing is right.

After time had passed and life had taken its course, we found our way to each other.

Five years after first meeting at Sierra Junction, we began dating.

What started with two people who had known each other for years quickly became something neither of us wanted to imagine life without. Over the past year, we’ve discovered what it means to truly be partners—not just sharing the exciting moments, but also the ordinary ones that somehow become our favorites.

We’ve laughed together, made countless memories, shared adventures, and learned more about each other along the way. We’ve become best friends, each other’s biggest supporters, and the person the other wants beside them for whatever comes next.

Looking back, we can’t help but wonder how different our lives might have been if we had known five years ago where that first meeting would eventually lead.

Maybe we simply weren’t meant to find each other then.

Maybe we needed those years, those experiences, and everything life brought us to become the people we were meant to be when we finally became us.

Whatever the reason, we’re incredibly grateful that our paths crossed at Sierra Junction all those years ago—and even more grateful that life gave us the chance to find each other again in a different chapter.

Five years after we first met, we became a couple.

One year later, we’re preparing to become husband and wife.

And this time, we’re not wondering where our paths will lead.
